300SD Auxiliary Fan Replacement Options

Hello everyone,

I was working on my one 82 300SD today when the aux fan kicked on and sucked in one of my blue shop towels. The fuse blew but not before the fan lost a blade.

I've got a 420SEL single fan and a 560SEL double fan setup available. Will either of these fit on the 300SD? Someone told me the later SD's got a bigger fan...

Thanks!

I think the gasser's front crossmember is slightly larger, but take some pics of their front, and compare it to yours.
I'm pretty sure the front crossmember (radiator support shroud... whatever the tin behind the bumper is called...) on the 82 is flat, and on the later years, they thinned it and put a large droop in there to give clearance to the fan.
I can take a pic of the 82 I have in my shop and compare it to my 85 for you.
the 85 CERTAINLY has a larger fan than my 82... around 16 inches...

I fitted the larger single fan onto the SD without much ado. Had to drill the top crossmember IIRC. Hopefully, you have the steel mounting bracket with the single fan.

I installed one from a 420 in my 82 SD. If I recall I had to use the tubular support bar from the 420 as well. (different angle = different length)
