Since you have MB-Text, use the 157 code. All other codes and non-codes..

yeah!!!!

Made a lunch time trip to Northern Tool. Now, I won't have to use pipe wrenches on the AC lines. And ever since I've used a flex ratchet and a flex ratchet wrench, I've wanted some. Today seemed like the day to buy them, too.

Drain Hose question

How long does the drain hose need to be that attaches to the bottom of the airbox? I bought one foot of hose --- obviously that's too long. I'd like to attach it to the bottom of the airbox and INSTALL this thing tonight.

I'm on a roll.....

Well....the stiff clear plastic tubing that I got from Lowes didn't work!!! It's too stiff. I made a run to Lowes last night and bought a universal dishwasher drain hose. It has a black soft rubber connector on each end and some flexible white tubing in the middle. I had to trim off some of the soft rubber connector --- the end was too big around; it steps down in size. Being soft and having the flexible tubing did the trick.

Last night, I got the manual airbox "hung" and the manual hot water "heater" valve installed. Used new O rings where the cables come through the firewall. Attempted to figure out the hot water feed to the valve and the return on the oil filter side of the block. I need some pics. Can someone with a manual airbox please snap a few pics? I've got various hoses and pipe, but can't figure out what goes where.

EDIT: Okay, I'm reading this:
http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/W123ACC1Conversion
also at:
300CD to 240D manual climate control conversion
and
1) I notice I forgot to put the "C" clips on the Bowden cables last night --- just making notes for me and any future lost soul that attempts this process
2) Gavin has a pic of part of the pipe and hose that feeds the manual valve. This should suffice in helping me identify what pipe and hose to use.
3) Gavin states: "The one remaining port on the drivers side will be fed by the existing heater tube that had previously fed the lines to the ACC servo. Even though it has a slight bend in it, there is enough flex and slack that it lines up with that remaining heater box tube very well." --- If you look at the pic, you see this hose goes right across the middle of the oil filter housing. There has to be a better solution.

I'm so glad I accepted this challenge.

Naturally.....

Unable to figure out the 2 remaining heater hoses last night, I decided to turn my attention to the Turbo Oil Drain "mess". Well....during my haste to order parts, I failed to get the 2 small o-rings that go on either end of the small straight drain tube. UGH. Got those ordered last night. Okay, so how about flushing the hoses out? Too late to drag the air compressor out and I don't have enough flushing solution to do all of them. When I flush, I want to flush everything. Took the last remaining AC line apart (the one above the alternator at the front top of the engine). That reminds me --- since I've already cleaned out the evaporator, I need to seal up the ends when I get home to keep some small creature from crawling in there.

Is that the hose that goes into the trans tunnel? It is only a couple of inches and was made out of foam at least for the auto climate box.

Got any pics of this?

Arrow Expansion Valve question

We all know our old Mercedes diesels were designed with R12
so
Are the new expansion valves R134A compatible?

I realize they will work.....but are they working effectively????

Turbo oil drain --- UGH

The 2 turbo oil drain o-rings arrived on Tuesday, so I tackled the turbo oil drain last night. OMG!!! Removing the alternator and the AC line is needed.....at least for me.

Unbolting the top section of the turbo oil drain was fun.....NOT !!! And what about that little plastic insert???? Oh, sheesh. Do I need to order one of those now????

Couldn't find my 5mm allen socket, so used an actual 5mm allen wrench to remove the oil pan. What a pain! And it didn't really help to remove the oil pan. Maybe the oil mess wasn't coming from the turbo oil drain grommet --- the tube was NOT easy to remove. I didn't want to hammer hard from underneath due to the hour (after 10pm with garage door up) and possible damage to the tube. Cutting the old grommet from the top allowed me to pry the grommet out --- it was semi brittle. From the looks of the tube, it's obvious the grommet has been replaced before --- I keep seeing stuff like this that proves this car was well carred for by a previous owner --- just not the one who had it before me.

I remember reading a thread and seeing pics of that little plastic/rubber insert into the top section. Naturally, I cannot find it now.....

I remember struggling with that and thinking I needed to find a deep socket to "hammer" it into place until I found a thread explaining how it fits and then I was able to push it into place by hand. Search a little more on that turbo drain and you will find the answer.

Here are the pics of the plastic insert. Upon closer examination, I think I know what it is...... Gasket Permatex type stuff????
