If you are up this way I have a decent exhaust for the CD which will be shorter somewhere (not sure). Could be modified to make up the difference I imagine.

Here's what I need:
WTB: Various w123 items

WTB --- 4 items

1) pair of w123 (rear) axles that have been rebooted

2) Driver's seat skin in a 6 pleat Palomino pattern in good condition or the whole seat.

3) Pair of good hood hinges.

4) Muffler

Years and years ago my thermo stuck in the closed position and my 300td started running a little hot. I was far from home and it was early in the morning, so I let it cool for several hours and removed the thermostat. It ran really cool for a hot summers day if my memory is correct. Before I drove the car again (11 years later) I put in a new thermostat and radiator. All good now.

You know you need a new inside mirror when it bounces more than a 617 engine with worn out mount mounts.

The inside mirror is shot; won't stay in one position; dances around; over the weekend a piece fell off of it as I was driving.

Anyone got a good used one available? Must come with the arm attached.

I don't think I knew I needed one --- plus there's always a w123 in the junkyards here. Well, I went to all 4 junkyards on Saturday and only found ONE thing for my 87 Champagne car.

Okay, okay, okay --- we all know the following:

The rubber "feet: isolators under the w123 air filter housing need to be "maintained".
The w123 air filter housing mounting bracket is often "broken".

So, since I just parted out a seized engine with an unbroken bracket, I thought I would replace the one on this car. Well, after pulling off the air filter housing on Tuesday night. Hmmmm. The unbroken bracket from the seized engine is NOT an unbroken bracket. It broke so cleanly that I thought it was designed that way. It's been a while since I've had a w123 air filter HOUSING off.

Anyway, last night's "mission" was to weld the broken (part closest to the firewall) section back onto the other part; hopefully I could get some post 5pm shop time. Drove to the shop; and it's like 2nd shift is in full swing. Everyone is there except the bossman (my friend). So, I have to compete a little bit for space, etc. Got the old air filter housing off. Took off the two top mounting bolts.....now how in the heck do you get to the bottom bolt. Hmmmm..... It helps to have a 3/8" "driver" swivel socket....borrowed from one of the mechanics who was still there. Broke it loose. Got the broken bracket off the car. I still had the broken bracket piece from Tuesday night; it was still firmly attached to the bottom of the air filter housing. Used brake cleaner to degrease it. Mounted both pieces using rubber feet isolators to the bottom of the air filter housing; vise grips to hold them together; tack weld; then removed from the air filter housing and rubber feet isolators to weld up. Set welder on 16 gauge and must "zap" it --- cannot do continuous bead; it will burn thru. Got a good weld on both sides. Got a bit much next to the top, rear mounting bolt hole, so ground that weld down a bit. Spray painted it and got the bracket re-installed.

So....the original air filter housing had "banged" against the transmission, bowden, vacuum contraption ontop of the valve cover so long that there is a gapping crack&hole in the side of the air filter housing. Since I had 2 spares, I decided to replace it. The first one I tried.....had to use different holes on the bracket for the rubber feet insolators (some of you probably know where this is going....). Weird. Anyway, go to mount the air filter housing and it's like it's too big --- up against the valve cover and transmission, bowden, vacuum contraption....hmmmm....and the air hard rubber connector that fits on the front of the turbo is like too long. Hmmmm......take off the air filter housing; take it to the work table and compare it to the old one I took off. They are different. UGH. Look at the 3rd one I have.....it's the same; mount it up.

PRESTO!!! No more air filter housing rattle. So, this morning's drive to work, the car is much quieter when idling....I mean MUCH.

So, guys with noisey w123 diesels, check the rubber isolators under the air filter housing and get the air filter housing bracket welded!!!

...you already got the inside rearview mirror,right? If you didn't, I have an extra that I'd be happy to sell/trade. Also, if you haven't already checked with vstech, I believe he sells rebooted axles.

Folks, I realize I've been a pest about getting some axles that have been rebooted. Do you know why? Well, last week, I heard the "swirl" noise. I already knew the inner boots were cracked.....but the "swirl" noise meant they were worse.

This past weekend, I climbed under the car and gave it an inspection. Here's what I found:

Note the non factory clamps on the outer boot:

So, knowing the cause of the "swirl" noise and also knowing I don't want any more water nor dirt getting in there, what do I do?

I know. A temporary patch on both BROKEN open boots:

I really need some replacement axles.....

What do the 3 red marks on the spring mean?
And look....the differential cover has been off not too long ago. Hmmm.....wonder why?

Anyone have answers? Please advise.

DeliveryValve is sending me a Driver's Seat Skin in Palomino in the correct 6 pleat pattern. He says it's not in good condition, but it's a LOT better than I have now.

He's also sending me an inside rearview mirror.
