1985 300D Turbo- Lower Oil Cooler Line Replacement
I see that the nuts are hard to get to and would probably be best attacked with a special shaped wrench......
But....is it really that difficult to get this out and a new one in? I'm reading some hairy methods and warnings about this job.... Please chime in. Tell me what I'm getting into. Thanks in advance. Jay

When I removed the Upper one I stripped 3 thread off of the Aluminum Nipple due to a piece of the Nipple being corroded to the Threads in the Steel Nut. Unfortunately mine was not an isolated incident.
I would plan for the worst and read all of the Oil Cooler Threads and the Oil Cooler Nipple repair threads and plan to have another Vehicle available so you can get to work. In one of the threads one of our members shows using a Dremel type tool with a cutoff wheel to cut 2 lengthwise slots in the Oil Cooler Hose Nut to split it so you do not have to turn the Nut off. That and good luck are the only ways to guarantee getting the Nut off without damaging the Threads. That works because the Hose does not seal on the threads of the Nipple so even if you nick the threads when using the cutoff tool the threads remain functional. You can use a proper sized Crows Foot Wrench on a Breaker Bar to get to the lower Hose Nut. 27mm or 1-1/16".
