Help requested: W210 E300 - SRS on.

My SRS light came on tonight. The control buttons on the steering wheel are dead as well. I checked the CCU diagnostics and found that screen #24 shows 12.6-12.8 volts on the system.

I thought my battery voltage always read 13.3+ volts. Am I looking at a bad ground or weak alternator situation here?

Any help is kindly appreciated.

Might be worn brushes in the regulator (a separably replaceable part of the alternator).

I hope that's all it is. I replaced the whole alternator about 6 years ago.

Update

I doubt that the problem fixed itself, but this morning the SRS light was off and the steering wheel controls were functional again.

I checked the voltage and it's still at 12.7-12.8 volts.

Could anyone else with a 1998-199 W210 check their CCU and confirm/refute that this is the proper voltage range for the car?

Thanks in advance.

At idle mine is usually at 13.1-13.3V. When RPM's are raised it bounces between 13.3-13.5V. Remember that the GP's are on for two mins and create quite a draw when first started.

In the high 12's, mine cranks a little slow.

The fact that your SRS light went out on its own probably suggests low voltage and a loss of communication as tht is not a light that can be reset with a typical scanner.

Awesome,

Thanks for the quick feedback. I will have a new voltage regulator in this evening. I suspected that the low voltage was the issue, since the gremlins are presently minor, and the voltage is obviously not what I'm used to seeing. I don't think that any two of these cars behave exactly the same when it comes to low voltage conditions. It seems that the condition occurs and any number of indicators can begin to behave abnormally.
