RPM Sensor

I replaced the RPM sensor on my '82 300D with used one which works however when I turn the key to the on position the tach needle bounces until I start the engine, then it levels out. Can this be remedied or is it to trivial to be concerned about?

Thanks

Does it have a ground? Sounds like a loose connection somewhere to me.
