$40 wastegate mod diy
bear with me as this is my first diy
I converted my vacuum type wastegate to pressure on my 95 s350 today. I bought one from the auction site for 39.99 shipped I had to lengthen the actuator rod by cutting and welding in a bolt the measurement i came up with was 5 3/4 inch from mounting face of actuator to center of eye The new actuator bolted right up to the turbo's factory bracket I then used a brass air line fitting to attach the boost pressure source to the new wastegate actuator and teed in a gauge for refrencing All is well and fairly easy job but only 9 pounds of boost so i will add a boost controller in the future The hardest part was attaching the clip that holds the actuator rod to the wastegate lever . I did it on the car without removing the turbo Steve

Nice job, and doing all that with the turbo still installed--sounds frustrating to me. You'll definitely want to install a boost controller in there. I converted a 606 from vacuum to pressure with an aftermarket actuator similar to yours, and then had to install a boost controller in there, since it opened at 8psi in stock form.
I also converted the vacuum actuator on my 602, by using the standard boost unit from a 603 with Garrett T3. It's almost a straight swap, with the addition of a couple little spacers. |
