reman 602 diesel inj pump problem

folks i need some help, my 1990 300d had a missfire which turned out to be lack of fuel pressure on # 5, got new / reman pump, installed, fixed problem, engine runs like new, problem is this.. when key is turned to off the engine stops as normal, when key is turned to start car the shut off lever seems to be binding slightly and stopping it coming up far enough to completely open for starting, if you lift leaver manually engine starts and runs great. is there any adjustment of the shut off valve that can be performed without removing the pump. Or do we need to remove and get 2nd pump from supplier.

thanks for any help.

You possibly have a failing shut off pod on the pump, or the internal linkage is binding. Probably should fix that asap.

Just curious, why did you opt for a reman pump, as opposed to just replacing the delivery valve assembly?

I cannot answer for the OP but we tend to blame the item we understand the least.

As an example a lot of people have replaced Glow Plug Relays first when the were actually having a problem with the Glow Plugs.

If there is some issue inside of the Fuel Injection Pump causing the starting problem you should return it to who ever rebuilt it and let them Fix it.

Does the lever pop into place if you remove the vacuum line to the actuator?
