How long does Startron and Biobor take to work it's magic?
My 300CD had a power problem going up hills and I noticed the the old boost line to the banjo bolt had broken off. I replaced it with a new line and the car responded better. When the warm weather came, the in line filter turned blacken and I suspected algae/fungi problem in my tank from sitting over the winter. I again had trouble with power up hills. I replaced the in-line and spin on filter and dumped 5 ounces of Startron Diesel Additive and 3 ounces of Biobor. I know that it is a stronger than recommended shock dosage but both products started that there was no problem with overdosing. The next day the car responded better and every day after. 6 days have past and now the car is having more trouble clogging and stuttering. I suspect the biocides are doing it's thing but how long does this process take to eradicate the gremlins? The in-line filter in clear and has not re-blackened as of yet.

I am not sure why you mixed the 2?
From what I have read on the Forums the Biobor kills but does not eat up the dead Bodies of the Organism. The Startron for Diesels is supposed to have an Enzyme that breaks up the Dead Bodies of the Organism in to pieces that will pass through even the Spin-on Filter. Mixing them might ruin how either of them functions. So your guess is as good as mine as to how long it is going to take before you do not have to change any more Filters. |
Give it a few hours to work and give it a go.
In my experience any brand of biocide will kill them and render them small enough to go through your filter. You need to start with new filters though.;) |
Biobor in my experience did not "break up the Dead Bodies of the Organism into pieces that will pass through even the Spin-on Filter," it did apparently kill off the growth though clogging the in-tank mesh strainer by coating it with a slimy black film resulting in sputtering and stalling out if the car was driven when tank reached reserve level.
No experience with Startron. Mixing the two appears ill advised. |
