Any VW TDI owners looking? Injection pump
I have a few MB diesels I own and do all the work on. A friend has a 2001 Jetta TDI that just quit running. 250K plus miles. turns over but won't start. I see it has a electronic ip. When I put a pump on a 97 300D. It had the same port to lock the pump as the old mech injection units. My friend bought the car used. I have no idea if it has 250+K on the timing belt. If I look and see problems with the timing belt, is there anyway to get everything lined up and put a new belt on to get it running? Belt may be ok, just need a heads up if one of you Diesel guys owns one of these.

There are locking tools you use to be sure you get the belt on the right tooth.
Does the glow plug light come on then go off when you turn the key? -J

No idea, just got asked to look at this. He says the car was running fine that just stopped. Could be almost anything form sucking air to plugged filter to electronic problem to belt failure. Engine is not siezed, turns over OK with starter. He is bringing the car to my shop, don't know what I'll find. I own a 90 350 SDL sorry to see you had to replace an engine. Saw oil in the water on mine at about 125K. Head gasket failure. Replaced it and she now has 260K on her and running strong. Old guy it will probably last longer than I will.

Check Relay 109. Its a numbered under driver arear above fuse box. That is common on those. I keep a spare in the glove box.
I have the tools. I'm a bit far away. If timing belt broke you would know it by the collision of the valve parts and pistons. It may have jumped a tooth which will make it not start. For the IP locking pin, it is easy to replicate with a drill bit and a lot of duck tape on one end . About a 3/16 drill bit i'd guess. Not home . The cam shaft locking plate you could use a flat plate about 1/8th thick and 1 inch wide and 3 + inches long. you can find pics of the tools in use on the tdiclub.com site. THere is a nice pdf of the procedure somewhere in the diys.
