The use of synthetic oil costs no more than dino when you factor in the mileage that can be accrued under synthetic with this engine (6K) and the capability of the filter to go this distance (6K).

Therefore, if the cost is the same, and the risks are significant to pick out the bad lifters, your decision is simple. Drive the vehicle with Mobil-1 Turbo Diesel Truck oil for 10K miles and see if the oil can cleanup the lifters.

Well thank you everyone for your input and wisdom, Guess Im going to have to think about this a little harder, since there are people steering me in both directions, if I do end up doing the job, I think I will listen to (Brian C.) and do the job the way the book says to, but I might possibly try running Syn like (Bio300) and (jonbob) said, to see what happens, It just sucks because I just changed my oil 1K ago, seems like a waste of money, thats one of the reasons I kinda just wanted to swap the followers out.

In the event that I do decide to try Syn out, how long is the average time it takes to quiet them up or is there an average time?
Would you agree that If I do end up trying out Syn and they dont end up quieting throughout the oil life cycle, I should then think about replacing them?
Thanks again

My opinion: 10,000 miles as a minimum.

The oil must clean the sludge out of the lifter for any success. It might be a situation where the lifter has collapsed and won't ever function properly, even if perfectly clean.

It only tics when it is in the process of warming up, usually, about 2 min. into it I start to hear it make noise on and off, once it is fully fully warmed up it rarely makes noise, but it does occasionally do it on and off once it is fully warmed.

Don't you have other things to worry about rather than an intermittent lifter noise that only lasts two minutes on startup?

sorry for the confusion, it starts to make noise 2 min. into warm up and can keep making noise for 10-15 min. I ruined a cam before in my other MB from having 1 sticky lifter go unattended for a while, just didn't want that to happen in this car.
If it only tics for 2 min. I wouldn't worry either, LOL I too have better things to do
