W123 air cond evap water drain

The AC gets nice and cold in my 85 300D but I don't see any water draining from under the car. What is the procedure for cleaning the drain and where it it located? I did a search but came up empty.

The AC drain is in the middle of the hump under the AC/Heater box. It is a short foam tube. remove the carpet panel and you will see it. kind of a tight fit with your hands to get in there. the water drains more or less on top of the transmission.

PeachParts Search

After this many years, it is deteriorated and a crumbling mess with a springy wire inside. It has been fixed with a short piece of hose, coke bottle etc...

If you don`t see water draining on the ground, then check for soggy carpet, especially in the rear floor. this seems to be where it collects.

I was curious so I searched myself as mine drains fairly well but sometimes if I come to a stop and then move a large amount will come out so I need to look at mine as well.

on my 79TD it was not a foam hose, but a rubber hose similar to the cowl drain hoses. I took it off, cleaned out the acorns etc, and it never gave me another lick of trouble.
I've not looked at the 85 123's but I'd be surprised if it's much different.
the foam hose is usually for air sample testing. likely the main lowest drain is plugged, and water is backing up to the foam one...

Probably a good ides, that is where it will all run out.

I have a unit I have removed from a 240D and taken apart. for the amount of leaves and other debris that gets packed into the far left corner where the evaporater lives, I don`t see how shoving a hose in there will wash it all out.

i've seen mention of using a spray on foam product that's designed for cleaning evaporator units, and that it works somewhat well. i was going to give that a try!

My 85 does have the white foam hose.

It is still intact. Here it is next to a short section of heater hose which fits on the evap drain nipple and will replace the foam hose. I have a cup under the nipple now to make sure it is not clogged, before I install the heater hose.

Evaporator in the far left corner? Leaves? Shouldn't the 240D evap be in the same location at the 300D? I assume the evap is the box above the tunnel and the drain nipple is attached to? How do you clean it without removing the evap which is a big job requiring removal of the dash?
