How hard is it to change the injector base seal washer 87 OM603
Hi, I have a 87 300D and my very front injector is spitting fuel out from the base of it where it meets the head, I bought a new crush washer from the Local MB dealer, What kind of a job is it to pull the Injector out of the head and replace said washer? l
It looks to have some spring clip down by the base.?.? does that sound right? How do I go about pulling the injector A BIG Thanks to anyone willing to throw me a little advise on this.

No it does not sound right. There is no washer for leak prevention. The injector body does not have seals, if it leaks then the halves need to separated then lapped to smoothness. The only washer there is the heat shield which has nothing to do with leaks, which incidentally is pretty easy to get to (27mm to remove injector, a pick to fish the old heatshield out).
Hopefully it's just the rubber return lines. Far more likely to squirt I bet. |

Normally the Injector just screws out with out issue and the old Seal/Heat Shield comes out with some sort of Hooked tool.
Once in a while the Heat Shield is hard to get out. Also once in a while if your Injectors Thread into the Prechamber Collar the Prechamber Collar turns and loosens when the Injector is removed (if that is the case it is going to happen even if a Mechanic removes it). In the Case of your Injector it could be that the Upper Injector Body has come loose from the Injector Nut. If you think that might be the case Put the top of the Injector into a Vice (Aluminum or Copper Jaw protectors are nice) and try torquing to the proper spec. If it tightens up I would re-install; remember you left the Old Heat Shield there. Start the Engine and see if it leaks. If it does not leak pull the Injector out and change the Seal/Heat Shield and re-install the Injector. If it still leaks remove the Injector and take a real good look at the Injector Nut to see if it has a Hair Line Crack on the Nut.
