MB 38 pin SRS reset tool..........
Just a heads up regarding a made in China SRS reset tool that connects to the 38 pin connector. I have a 96 E300D, and my srs light went on about a month ago. Doing a Google search, I came up with a number of sellers offering a reset tool that connects to the 38 pin connector that is supposed to reset the SRS control module. According to the instructions, you place the key in and put it to the #2 position, and then connect the device. A led light on the device is supposed to activate red, and when that happens, you push one of the two buttons one of which is labeled "Air Bag Reset". If the light turns green, the SRS module has been reset, if it stays red, it means you have a real problem that needs to be corrected. When I received the tool, I plugged it in according to the directions, and nothing. No light, and pressing the buttons did nothing. I tried all different combinations with the same result. Sending the unit back to China costs just about half the price of the unit which was $25 which included shipping. In the hopes that the first unit was s dud, I ordered a second one from a different seller, and got the same results. Both units appear to be made by the same manufacturer, and both units responded in the same manner...ZIP!!!!! A word to the wise.....
