1983 300D with turbo from 1985 300D
So can you please help me identify what this particular item is, whether I can just 'block it off' like the egr? Circled in green
Where should the rubber tube be attached [assuming it is a vacuum line feed/receptor]? Circled in red. Thanks again!! http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...oextratube.jpg |
It would be helpful if you would be more precise. That is a real closeup and I don't see anything I can identify it with. It is unfamiliar to me and it is to hot for me to go out and match it up on my engine. Is it a picture from the 300D turbo engine? And where is the part located?

OK, thanks for the second picture. I suspect if you pull that stub hose off you will find nothing where it is attached. I don't know much about the turbo because I have never had one apart, but on my turbo there is a factory plug in that spot and I suspect that the short hose in question is sitting on that plug. So pull it off and take a look.

I only ask as I've seen other images with a vacuum line going from there to ?????

I'm fairly certain it's the "arv" air recirculation valve... it cuts boost when the egr is open, since your egr is blocked, I'm hoping the valve is disabled...

I'd get rid of that air filter too. The stocker filters much better and has plenty of capacity.

The thing on your Turbo is refered to as a, Circulating air safety valve. what you are looking at is probably what is left from the vacuum line that originally went to it. don`t worry about, just leave it as is, or pull the rubber hose off it.
Originally there was a vac line from it (item 71) to a switch over valve, (item 81) the SOV got vac off the main line from the Vac pump (item 67) to the brake Booster. a third line from the bottom of the SOV going to the VCV (item 65) on the IP. Item # 80 is the Control Unit or also refered to as the Black box on the 85 300D and SD. the 84`s also had this unit. Item # 80 send a signal through a wire to trigger the SOV to dump some of the boost from the turbo, Item# 71, circulating air safty valve. or also refered to as the ARV valve. The Black Box resides behind the Pass kick panel. From a diagram in my FSM for the 617.95 engine. Charlie |

Yes, ARV. Well, as was mentioned, the circulating air safety valve.
Looks blocked off, no issue. |

Looks like you've got the same clearance problems I do that greatly restrict air cleaner options. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1341256759 I'm likewise using a Spectre filter, but only on a temporary basis, until I finish getting my car inspected and re-titled. The permanent solution will be a Ford paper cone filter using a custom aluminum flange to connect to the turbo intake. You might still have some clearance issues with your A/C hose, but something to consider. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1341257258 Love your catch can! That's on my list too, but out of aluminum. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1341257487 |
