Good going Shoe!!
One day you wake up and think, "Why the hell am I driving this primitive old car that isn't nearly as comfortable and optioned as a newer car?" I have a newer car and still have no car payment. I do have to change the oil every couple of months..... That is lame reasoning anyway. Newer cars are usually worth the payment. And the warranty! While there is nothing wrong with loving to drive your old Benz, to call out Shoe as some of yall did seemed quite uninformed and probably youthful. Plus, I love the look of those new Explorers. Now the E350.......Meh......

I understand where you are coming from. If I did not decide to save my TD and continue with SVO for a few more years, i would have finally moved on (been driving it daily almost 7 yrs).
Next car will be a Jetta TDI sport wagon mit 6spd. AC would be nice, and the thought of less time spent on weekends maintaining/repairing gets more and more appealing every year. There is life after diesel MB's... GL with the gasser's

A vehicle is just a vehicle. To know the wife is out on the road with something pretty reliable is worth a lot to most of us. Hopefully the expense of it can be at least partially written off tax wise at 900 miles a week.
I for one really would not like my wife out there doing anywhere near 900 miles per week every week with an old car. Some of the stuff I drive locally myself I expect to break with age related issues from time to time. Over time in fact that has been the senario. That is just the price of doing so. Preventative maintenance will never get it all. Although it does help. I also feel that what one puts out financially and is comforatable with depends on many factors. We usually have vehicles around in our immediate family from almost new to over seventy years old. |

Good luck with the new motah (said in Cockney accent) shoe - I'm glad you're still planning on sticking around.

The new FWD Explorers are way nice. Ford's powertrains and interior quality have come leaps and bounds in a few years. IIRC you can get the 2.0 I-4 Ecoboost, the 3.5 V6 Ecoboost and the N/A 3.7. Which did you get?
Depending on options, expect 17-22 combined driving. |
