Electrical deamon fuse 13 '83 300SD W126

Hello again gents,

I'll give you the unabridged version of my troubles. It started out a few days ago. I swapped my aux fan for a larger one and went for a test drive. Yes, fuse 13 has logically nothing to do with the aux fan. I proceeded out of the parking lot when I casually went over a speed bump and my radio went dead. I thought, awwwwe fack, fuse blew. It did. number 13 was replaced immediately and upon then next speed bump, it blew again. I thought there was a wire shorting out to ground somewhere, so I didn't replace the fuse again until a day later. Same thing. On the way to work, I hit bump and the fuse blew again. On lunch break I attempted to replace the fuse with the engine running and it blew while I was installing it. It continues to do so currently.

I decided to remove everything I can that is powered by that fuse and try installing a new fuse and connecting devices one-by-one. I disconnected everything but the central locking system and fuse still blows as soon as I connect it. I don't know anything about the central lock system and it has never worked since I bought the car. In lieu of disconnecting the locking system, I decided to disconnect everything else on the circuit and test for continuity, ohms, and amps between the two #13 terminals. I get nothing on any of the tests. The meter reads 0 for all three tests. I jumped the terminals with a screw driver for about 3 seconds with the hazard flasher switch on and they did activate. I just don't understand what could be the cause of this; with everything removed but the lock system, how could I not get an ohm, amp or continuity reading if it blows fuses constantly? I am stumped!

I'm about ready to wedge a piece of steel in fuse holder and wait for something to start smoking to find my problem. If it were a short to ground, I should have gotten a reading in the tests, right?

Any advice is appreciated!

Use a brake light bulb in place of the fuse. It will give you a safe series impedance to find the fault.

Does anyone know where and what connectors I can pull to disable the central locking system?

I'll try the brake light bulb as well. Thanks Jay.

I'll check the vacuum pump in the trunk. I currently have it removed so maybe something fell on the connector and is shorting out. I think there is more to the system, though.

I found it!! I was right, it was the vacuum pump wire. It found its way under the spare tire, got crushed and was grounding out on the frame. I have the trunk carpet out right now because some day I plan on fixing some rust holes in the wheel wells.

I replaced the fuse and took her for a drive and everything is fine again.
