300SD New Starter not disengaging

1983 300SD, we just put in a new starter and it won't disengage once started.
Any thoughts on mistaken wiring, ie. could we have reversed something on the solenoid that can be switched?

Problem did not exist before new starter.

what brand is the starter? could just be bad out of the box

Bosch Rebuild. We hit it with a hammer. Works great now!
