AC Oil

I've completely flushed out all the old oil in my AC system, and I'm now ready install a new compressor. FSM section 83-520 says the following oil capacities need to go into the various parts:

Compressor: 170 cc
Condenser: 50 cc
Evaporator: 70 cc
Receiver/Drier: 40 cc

=330 cc oil = ~11 fl. oz.

I'm not sure how to actually get the oil into the evaporator and condenser, can I just put ~6 oz in the compressor and ~5 oz in the drier?

Am I reading the FSM correctly? It's not exactly the most well-written and clear document...

Thanks, and happy 4th!

the FSM is written that way as an estimate for oil loss with parts replacement in my opinion.
I'd just put 3/4 of the oil in the receiver, and the rest in the suction line, then the system can circulate the oil as it feels like it.

thanks vstech,

With a new compressor I need to put a few oz in the compressor and turn it mannually, before starting the system up for the first time, right?

So 11 oz is the correct amount of oil?

I don't think so.

I seem to remember 8 oz...

on a new compresor, I drip in small amounts of oil, and rotate the compressor 3-5 times, then drip some more in, and rotate another few.
