722.416 transmission: K2 spring kit replacement
Vehicle is my 1985 300CD-T (California).
I have looked in the DIY section here for information about replacing the K2 spring (assembly really) and only found some K1 replacement information. The transmission is original, mileage is 186,140. I have done transmission filter and fluid (including the torque converter) every 15,000 miles since I bought the car with 113,000 miles. I have been noticing some relatively minor (though consistent) flaring on the 2-3 shift that was never there before. I have looked for vacuum leaks and so far, have found nothing. So, I wonder: After 186,000 miles and 27 years of service, would a K2 replacement be in order? As I said, I have done transmission work on this car numerous times and I have no problem doing it. My question: Are there any DIYs for replacement of the K2? I'm sure I've seen the area in the transmission where the K2 is located when I've had the pan off, but I couldn't pinpoint it right now and I certainly do not want to guess. If anyone has any pictures or explanations for helping identify the K2, that would be useful to me. Thanks- |

I did a search on "replacing k2 spring", this thread has the pictures you might need.
Are K1 and K2 springs the same? Charlie
