Stupid question: Oil filter washers?

Hi guys,

I just got done draining the oil and pulling the filter out of the '87 300D. I wasn't really paying attention at the time, and now I've got these two copper crush washers that came with the new filter and no idea where they go. I've done this enough times that you'd think I'd remember, but I'm having a brain fart.

Obviously, the drain plug takes a crush washer. But I can't remember if the oil filter housing takes two (i.e. one sandwiched between the top of the filter and the lid, then another between the lid and the head of the center bolt), or if it just takes one on the outside (or the inside?) of the lid and the other is a freebie from Mahle for the drain plug.

Which one is it?

only the drain plug takes a washer.

the filter lid bolts go on plain, and the lid itself takes a large o-ring. also the stem of the filter lid takes two small o-rings.
the other copper washer is for a different car that the filter also fits.
