w123 removal of rear door ashtray??

i cannot figure this out. service manual 72-101 shows an ashtray that doesnt look anything like mine, and i can't find the "bottom retaining cam" nor any hidden screws... searching the forum provided nothing.. any guidance on how to get this thing out? pulling on it past it's normal range of travel seemed like something was gonna break.

I had no idea either, since nobody smokes in our cars. so checked with a spare door panel. after some fiddling around with it, very simple.

Flip open the tray, slightly push down on the edge of the part you flipped out, and it will come out.

There are two flat pieces of springy metal on the bottom that keep the tray tight when it is installed.

To reinstall it, put the bottom in first, push down, and close.

i should let people know who might search for this in the future. the service manual is correct but it is MISSING the first step which is outlined above. the manual starts with the flip out piece already removed, but it doesnt tell you how to remove it.

I was having the same problem. I put my 4yo son in his booster seat and he had it disassembled in 2 minutes of playing with it. child's play...
