Model 126 Brake Line questions - time for replacement(s)!!
Benz Friends,
First, many thanks to all who have helped on this forum - you've made this a great resource! Running through various maintenance work on Ye Olde Gal (83 300 SD) to keep her in good running shape. Latest item is the full run-through on brakes; pad checks, hose replacements, full system flush, etc. Working the system hard, I've 'popped' a weak point in the rear common brake line - glad I discovered this in the driveway! I have a clear loss of brake fluid from just in front of the left rear wheel. So, my immediate task will be to replace this line completely - then eventually all the hard lines - it's apparently time to do so! (or, I may have to make do with a splice for a week or so...) in any case: Before I get under there to start tracing everything: Can anyone point me to any specs/diagrams of this system? I'm hoping to pre-research this in order to minimize downtime. Wanna get her back to Daily Driver status... - does anyone have exact specs on the various hard lines in this car? - anyone know the exact length of this rear common line - as I may fabricate it from raw lines... - are the lines all 3/16" OD ? - anyone have a cost estimate on the dealer-provided replacement lines - ie, is it worth my trouble to fabricate? - for those of you who've done this already: Is going to stainless at this point recommended? - if I do have to make the lines de novo, is there anything about the required flares which I can't accomplish - for example - using a basic rented (AutoZone) brake flare tool? (don't think I've seen any 'bubble' flares on this car, for example (?) - so far, all the fittings seem to be M10 x 1.0 - does this seem right? - are the fittings on this car brass or steel? (they seem pretty soft to me) I've been doing my homework! Have been searching posts for anything spot on, but so far no luck... Many thanks to any of you who may have input. Lou

3/16 and M10 X 1.0 is what I remember, need confirmation. They are steel lines. Ebay was the best source for a bubble flare tool when I needed one.

Cunifer Brake Lines
Have you ever seen Cunifer brake line tubing? this is an alloy that is very rust resistant and easy to form.
