Monark Injector Nozzle Install Video

Hello all,

I received my new Monark nozzles yesterday and I went ahead and rebuilt all 5 spare injectors last night. I am VERY impressed with these nozzles. The pop-off pressure and spray pattern are perfect. I bought a shim kit but I didn't need to use any shims; all the injectors are within 50PSI of each other.

I made a series of videos on how to rebuild an injector with a new nozzle. I will post these to YouTube and provide links in this thread. It was getting late last night and I didn't have time to process the videos.

I hope this will help someone.

I am excited to see the videos, so thanks for taking the time to do that. I missed out on picking up new monark's last week, but I will be more vigilant if they ever get stock again. Given how fast they sold out, I am surprised that Ebay isn't full of "re-sold" or "flipped" nozzles. I only found a few folks selling rebuilt injectors for ~$300. I would rather spend $100 and do it myself. Thanks again.

I'm doing the same thing...glad you were successful! Haven't watched the vids yet but I will. May I ask where you got the kit, how much it cost? I might need them. Thanks

Considering that you appear to be using a liquid-damped pressure gauge, you might not be as informed about pop pressure as you would like to be.

Yes, that's what they said on them. It looks like Kent is sold out again. Either a lot of people needed them or they only made a small run of them.

In the US there is a lack of Nozzle choices. Made in India Bosch Nozzles that cost more than the Monark Nozzles, Bosio Nozzles that cost almost x2 as much as Monark Nozzles or Monark Nozzles made in Germany that are the least expensive of the bunch.

Is anyone on the forums merchandising the Monark nozzels?

Individuals ,NOT KB.

Eaton,

Amazing timing, I did the same thing (5 injectors in a 1985 617, installing Monark needles); finished last weekend.

I have some observations about differences in what we did:
  • I did not lap the top of the new needle housing. I figured that if the factory can't get these machined flat, I certainly can't do better by hand.
  • I did not clean the shipping lubrication from the new needles/housing.
  • The parts inside my injectors did not look the same as yours. The part that goes between the spring and the intermediate disk (some diagrams call this the "push rod" or "thrust pin") looked quite a bit different. This is the part that in your videos you referred to as "I don't know what this is called". :)
The first 100 miles or so seemed very smooth. Ever since then I've noticed some knocking at around 1500 RPM. I've read from older posts that it will take a while for everything to sort out after this change.

I'm going to Germany tomorrow for 6 weeks. Maybe I'll try to find out how much Monark nozzles go for in the Fatherland.

Please, let us know the prices there.

Thanks!

Have Fun!
I think you are allowed up to $150 worth of stuff before you have to pay Coustoms Duty. Keep your Paper Work so you can show what you paid.

Your methods are probably just fine. Lapping the needle housing is probably a good idea but it does look pretty smooth. Removing the shipping oil is not necessary in my opinion but I followed the procedure laid out by the vendor to ensure I didn't void my warranty. I'm not sure of the differences between 83 and 85 617s but they may have revised some of the injector internals that year. Did you happen to take a picture of the push rod in your injectors?

did you ever make it back home ?
...
...this thread just died ?

I was hoping to 'hear' the outcome.
But mostly:
How do the new nozzles make a difference ?
Better performance/power ?
Or better mileage ?
(Before ? & after ?)
If anyone ever measured it, then it would be really nice to know the figures, and if I should invest in the effort and parts.

Thanks
