Nice!! I missed this thread! Should it be moved to the new "long term build"?

I'm not planning on renewing the rear wheel bearings. I have seen no issues with them. I'm going to stick with just the rubber crap for now.

I NEED to do this same thing on Klaus - next time we meet up, I'd like to hear the whole story on how the install goes for you.

That thread is titled rear wheel bearings but it also goes into links, flex disks, and rear axles.

We replaced practically everything on the rear of the car last year. If you have any questions, be sure to ask either me or Vstech, we went through every bit of the rear of the car and can share our experiences.

My job started out as a flex disk replacement and quickly evolved into a full rear end rebuild.

Kudos to you for doing this and saving this car. The beginning pictures are depressing and make me pissed that someone could have such a nice car and allow this to happen. It is heartening to see folks like you reviving and preserving these cars. Thanks and good luck with it.

I didn't notice the time until after I took the picture.

I got all the old bushings out of the donor sub-frame and pressed in the two rear and differential mount replacements. I want to clean up some surface rust prior to pressing in the forward bushings.

I also purchased front bushings and sourced replacement springs because one of the front ones is cracked at the bottom three inches or so.

Other items on the circuit down from the X30 power distribution were getting power, so that meant there was a problem further down the line from there. The central locking system schematic does not adequately show the splitting location, but the power distribution page does. The X48F connection (between the vacuum pump and the X30) turned out to be the problem. The pictures at the floor of the right rear foot area in the cable tray show the splitting crimp corroded on the red/white power wires. I solved the problem by cutting off the corroded part of the wires and recrimping with new connector and finishing off by wrapping with waterproof 88T tape.
Thanks so much for posting this repair. I just performed the same repair on my '87 wagon, which had sketchy central locking for years and finally last year they stopped working entirely. Only the power circuit was affected, strange the the two ground crimps seem to be fine.

Here are a few of the latest upgrades, pictures to follow:

New windshield - old one cracked during a recent deep freeze;
Replaced 4x door cards with post 1991 leather door cards (with wood trim);
Installed front door speakers;
Replaced front springs - one of which was cracked - with low mile E420;
Replaced rear hatch gas struts (it actually stays up, even in cold weather!);
Replaced 94-95 head lights with 86-93 euro lights and wired in "city lights";
Replaced front brakes with 500SL/500E disks and rotors and stainless braided hoses (I'll upgrade the rears when I swap out the rear sub-frame);
Replaced rims with 16" W210 E420 (size now required because of brake upgrade);
Obtained, but not yet installed, 1992 leather front seats (Nice condition!);
Obtained, but not yet installed, post 1990 leather rear split seat bottoms;
Obtained, but not yet installed, post 1990 dash with wood trim;

Need leather rear split seat uppers.

I can't wait for warm weather!!
