Change the oil at least a couple of days before the trip so you can check for leaks before you leave home...Check your differential fluid... carry a cell phone with you... be sure batteries on it are charged... if electrical system goes out you won't be able to use the cig lighter .... have extra fluid for trans, brakes , etc...? Checked the air in your spare tire, have everything needed to change a flat ? Always carry duct tape.... even if you are not Red Green from Canadian PBS....Drive carefully.... Greg

bobco,

I drove my first 240D, a '77, almost 300,000 miles and never carried more than the spare tire and tool kit that came with the car. I never needed anything on the road.

My second 240D, Ol' Silver that now has 533,000 miles, I never carried a tool box until about 350,000 miles. One day I just decided I should put together a box of metric tools to put in the trunk. It was less than a month later the fan/alternator belt broke and I needed the tools.

Just check the car over, throw in a few basic tools and enjoy the trip.

Good luck and I wish I could make it,

Well, mines coming down on a trailer this time. I'm not going to have an opportunity to mess with it before the meet. I now think that my nail and lope is injector related. The problem comes and goes almost at will. I bought a compression tester on Ebay, but it came with the wrong adapter.

Sometimes it seems like if it isn't one thing, it's another.

Diesel Power , that is great, with 20 guys and their tools we can completely take your car apart in a day.... and with it on a trailer we don't have to worry about putting it back together,,,you can do that at your leisure when you get home....That will be the best ' party game' ever... thanks for offering to bring it.... Diesel Power,
? Put it back together ? What kind of party would that be? That sounds too much like mechanicing to me... That would also take away the wonderful learning opportunity you would have putting it back together... I thought it was a very generous offer by us to take it apart for you ... that is almost half the work, and we were not even going to charge you for it......Tell me the truth, has anyone else ever offered to take it apart for free ? Greg

I ALWAYS get offers to take things apart. That, of course, is THE most fun part of any project. It's the putting together that everybody hates............

Oh yeah, if anybody has a diesel compression tester... The one I bought did NOT come with the MB adapter as promised, and the one it DID come with doesn't fit the tool.

See, you understand completely, so we will get started as soon as you arrive...you might want to bring empty cans for the nut and bolts.. and probably masking tape to label where things are came off,and rope to tie all the sheet metal down as you haul it home..., Glad you got the 'party' game spirit...this will be a lot of fun,,, and we will have good food to eat during the excitement.... DP,
I just ordered a diesel compression tester last Friday. It'll be here sometime next week. I'll bring it with me.
