61x starter wiring
Installing 616 motor. Does ground go to top or bottom terminal on starter solenoid?

Perhaps a bad choice of words; I thought the Starter Motor Ground was throught the Bell Housing/Block/Ground Cable to the Chassis and on to the Battery to Chassis Ground Cable????
The pic is of a 1982 240D Starter In the pic below the + is where the Battery Cable and the 2 Red Wires to the Alternator may also go there (items that have Battery Voltage all of the time). The small Screw Terminal gets juice from the Ignition Switch. No Arrow to it but the Braided Cable attached to the Bottom large Post is not a Ground Cable. It gets + Voltage when the Solenoid activates and causes the Starter to spin. |
Thank you. I'll probably find a chassis ground lug for the battery nearby.

I don't have a 616; on mine the Ground Strap is on the left side about where your Feet would be; but, under the Car and it bolts on I think on the Bell Housing on one side and the Chassis on the other.
