Awesome score at the junkyard today.

Scored a minty fresh blue text interior for my 300D. The blue leather is really sad and not very comfortable. It was incredibly fun removing the seats without power. I left today with the following

Front bucket seats
Rear bench
Front bumper license plate fill panel
Headlight wiper delete panels
Updated style ash tray
Om60x injection pump timer gear.

The car had 189k on it and had no rust or anything. The engine was relatively clean too. Sadly someone nabbed the injection pump, injectors, turbo, vacuum pump. Etc. if I h ad found I t intact I would have pulled the engine. I forgot to nab the trunk badge.

Walked out with my loot for $91. Cannot wait to install the seats and fresh Blue dash I'll have some blue leather skins for sale soon. I'll probably just scrap the old metal.

Nice score! All for $91, can't complain one bit. I wish there were yards around here that had anything worth pillaging for.

X2. I get jealous every time I hear about a good score at a pick and pay. I think the closest one to me is a few hundred miles away.

I stopped going to mine because they are con artists charging insane prices. They make back what they pay people for the car on about 5 parts!

Some places are like that here in FL and I avoid them. The yard I frequent is u pull and pay Orlando. They have a massive price list for items, heck a vacuum pump (electric or mechanical is $4.99), radiator, $49.99, etc etc.

It's $2 to get in, which I do not mind paying since the cars are organized nicely, on stands. I always have access to a flat cart or wheelbarrow and there are at least 10-12 A frame cranes to drag around to pull engines.

Plus the fact that they have fresh German inventory just about every month is nice. I check the inventory list every day, oh, did I mention they update the inventory every day? Not bad for $2. I wish more JY were like this one. I wish I could buy an annual pass!

Yeah ours charge $2 entry also. There's been times where there's no wheel barrows available and they don't grade or maintain the grounds very well so its like hiking a gravel pit. Plus their german inventory is tiny and usually consists of a few battered vw's.

The best here charges $2 to get in. The main problem is returns. They only give credits even if they don't have any replacements for the defective part.

The lot near me is awful. They buy Insurance right offs so all there cars, including mercedes are usually in perfect shape save a rear ender or something. They charged me $30 for just a gas pedal and told me they wanted $75 for just the rear shelf!!!.....

The problem is more and more shops and dealers using "used" parts from these places rathert than new replacements, so they created an artificial price point they charge for many items, while a "deal" to a repair shop vs. new, in reality the price is insane for used stuff.

There's a good one in Va. Beach near me. $2 entry. Well organized with foreign separated from domestic. And the prices are reasonable. I was able to score a nice #14 head and vacuum pump from a 86 SDL recently for about $115.
The problem is the supply of Mercedes is scarce, so I check their online inventory frequently. This is truck country and there are plenty of them.
It seems to be a happening place on the weekends, with many people and they even have food vendors show up around lunchtime.
They put all the vehicles up on old wheels to make them accessible to work on, kinda scary though. I'm surprised they haven't had accidents.

There are no pick and pulls that i am aware of anywhere in Indiana.

I do remember going out and roaming around yards 20 plus years ago and grabbing a part here or there on occasion.

My wife and her family are from Ft Wayne, and they don't consider that area to be part of Indiana. More like south Chicago.

I hear you on this one. I was at the San Jose yard off Ciommercial, and when I came back to my PU, the right door mirror was missing.
So that cost me $12 for one off a PNP truck.
