Interchangeable parts??

Hey folks I was just wondering if any parts are interchangeable between the w116 and w123 body styles? Obviously engine parts are if they share a common engine, but I was wondering more about interior and body stuff. Also, wondering if I can relatively easily swap a manual climate control in because I think the overly complicated automatic one is broken :/

Not many if not no body parts interchange between w123/w116.

Also, have fun converting from an automatic climate control to manual. You need everything.

I think it will still be better than having that ridiculously over complex automatic climate control unit, unless I can find a working one for cheap

If you want a manual climate control, pull one out of a W123 240D. I have pulled 4 of them and not really all that difficult to do. you will have to remove the dash and console, then it`s a matter of disconnecting the heater hoses, some cables to the water valve on the firewall, 2 straps and a metal brace. be careful of the front piece with the controls, it isn`t supper strong and will break if you are rough with it.

The knobs for the controls pull off, then a large thin nut, it isn`t on all that tight, some needle nose plires work most of the time. the slider knobs also pull off. there is only 2 vac pods as I remember, and then wiring.

W116 body is a totally different chassis as well as the W126 that replaced it. but the rear trailing arms and differential will cross over to a 123. the 126 up to 1985. the 617 turbo engines are more or less the same, motor mount arms, oil filter housing and maybe the upper pan are different between the chassis. the tires will also cross over.
