Is it possible to make a mint mercedes

I feel like i have replaced every single piece on my car one at a time... it works great but feel i put in at least 12 hours a week into this thing... Im actually thinking of selling it to get a newer car so my wife can spend more time with me haha... ill post some pics of it tomorrow but i have many thousands in receipts of parts... all of which have been installed and i used all oem or better parts...

The answer is no. By the time you change the last part, the first one you changed will be going bad for the second time. The trick is finding balance between the wife and the car.

sure, pay the classic center $$$$$

So your wife beat you down, :dark: .
After you take car of the daily chores with the wife. What are you going to do with the other 23 hrs and 58 1/2 seconds. :D

I guess you could replace every part on one of these old Benz, but you know, some parts are NLA, so you couldn`t really replace them all.
Wow, 12 hrs a week working on them. I usually drive mine, and then do have some maintance now and then. but wait until you buy a new car, yeah it will have a warranty and you can take it if for service. It wont be a DIY because it will be so complicated.

I had a pretty nice 82 300TD wagon which I fixed so many things on I exhausted myself mentally on it. Eventually I had it looking really excellent and everything was working very well on it. I got to the point where I was thinking "what will go wrong next?"

So I sold it.

Now every time I think of that car I think "I had everything fixed on it!"

I have regretted selling it ever since.

A really nice old benz is priceless. You can always get another wife.....

(Just kidding) If it is causing trouble with the wife you need to make adjustments.

An example in our marriage is that on Friday night we always go out to eat. It is an inviolable standing date. We never miss unless we are out of town on vacation, then of course we eat every meal out (more or less).

But back off on the old benz a bit and take your wife out to a nice restaurant with all the money you didn't pay to repair shops, buy her a nice rose and talk about how you can make her happier without selling along your excellent old 123 for a newer, less quality, less fixable car.;)

No driver Mercedes or other car will ever remain in "mint" condition. What a hobby of classic car restoration for a garage queen then you can have mint. Fix everything up and only bring her out for a wash or Sunday drive. Any car that is being used for your daily transportation needs will be in a constant state of decay and will require some amount of upkeep.

Driving an old car is an up & down experience. You will go along for awhile with everything breaking, then you hit a stretch where all it requires is routine maintenance. You just never know when you've hit that point where it will be smooth sailing for a long time.

That last part you put on, might have gone you to that long stretch of smooth sailing, but there's no way to know.

If its got tits er tires --its gonna give U some problems.
Figure out which one is too high mantinance .......and discard .;)

the only way for a "mint" one is to buy brand new from the dealer, and trade it in every year for the next newer one.

Always something to be done. Usually that something doesn't prevent driving. Never mint. Much less cost than new car or even newer car even counting my time. On the other hand, I gave in and rented a car for a 1000 mi round trip.

Better fuel mileage, cheaper fuel & IF something went wrong, it wasn't my problem.

There are two kinds of car I would buy.

New:
Warranty, No hassle, just bring it to the dealer.
But expensive.

Junk:
You have to fix a lot of stuff on this cars , but you know that you have to fix it before you buy it.
You know what you did fix and how you did it.
You have the chance to fix it once and fix it right before you drive
the car for the first time.
This way is time consuming in the beginning, but you will have
a reliable car for the next 10 years.

Responding ‘cause this got me pondering

Not mint. As stated above, no DD will be mint unless you are doing serious preventative maintenance/upkeep. Add the age in and your equation becomes kinda unique. But the older it is, the more things that weren’t really intended to be replaced need replacing. And it gets harder to find some of those parts that are quality. But they can be good DD’s. At least for us.

NEW UPATE on mint mercedes.. i have come to turns that it is not possible to make it perfect so in celebration of this realization i told my wife if she wants air conditioning back in the car she has to put in a new evaporator with me... if we can do this together all things are possible to achieve

t walgamuth 07-31-2012 05:52 AM

lol

My experience is that if a car doesn't look like crap, doesn't smell, and has working A/C, whether or not its mint is irrelevant to the wife or girlfriend. :D

Mint is a difficult to meet objective, but well maintained and functional without disgrace is a pretty easy to meet one. Aim lower!
