83/85 Mercedes Question...

Hello, I am new to the forum, I have been making BioDiesel for the local college for a while and decided to invest in the 300TD as a daily driver. I'm sure this is the first of many questions in this forum. So,

Somewhere I have read where someone provided VIN's and another person was able to provide pertinent information on the car. Is there a website for this or does someone have somekind of inside source? If you are out there and you are reading this, and you have a few moments for a fellow vintage mercedes lover, I have to VIN's I would like to know about.

WDBAB33COFA24171-85 dream ride-my new daily driver

WDBCB20AODB050014-83-(little rough but had to buy as a package deal)

Thanks for any insights you might have...

Search the forum on Russian VIN site to learn how to decode the VIN.

It's down again, and they say you need to register and have someone on the site do it for you now.

Or visit a MB dealer or call the MB Classic Center.

Or get a free subscription to the EPC and type in the VIN there.

Really?

In JimmyL 's absence, I'm going to ask:

Are you sure these are 300TDs?
Could theses cars maybe be 300Ds with a turbo?

300D = 4 door sedan
300TD = touring diesel; wagon; 4 doors plus 1 hatch
And then there are
300SD
300SDL
Etc.

Wow, this site is AWESOME, the response time is tremendous!

I typed the VIN's as the are written on the IL titles but tomorrow I'll write them from the door plates.

Pictures to come,

Thanks again...

Doesn't seem that either is a TD. AB33 is a W123 300D sedan, CB20 is a W126 300SD sedan.

The first VIN is missing a digit or character. If the second VIN is WDBCB20A0DB050014, because there are no letters O or Q in US VINs, then here is the basic datacard info:

VEHICLE TYPE: Car
MODEL NAME: 300 SD USA
ENGINE: 617951 12 050188
TRANSMISSION: 722303 02 382529
BODY: 10470
ORDER NUMBER: 0370552806
LIGHTS: BOSCH
INTERIOR COLOR: 252 [sixto - dark blue leather]
PAINTS: 735 [sixto - astral silver]

440 TEMPOMAT (CRUISE CONTROL)
461 INSTRUMENT WITH MILES IND. AND ENGLISH LEGEND
519 REAR AUDIO SYSTEM
524 PAINTWORK - PRESERVATION
531 AUTOMATIC ANTENNA
543 SUN VISOR WITH MAKE-UP MIRROR L. AND R., BE-
570 FOLDING ARMREST, FRONT
592 ALL-ROUND WD-GREEN GLASS,HEATED REAR WINDOW-VSG
611 EXIT LIGHTS FOR DRIVER DOORS
640 15-HOLE LIGHT ALLOY RIMS
668 PACKAGING FOR SHIPPING VEHICLES WITH TIE-DOWN HOOK
673 HIGH-CAPACITY BATTERY
803 AEJ 06/1/M/X

Doesn't list sunroof but I've never seen a 126 SD without a sunroof.

Hello-I've got a couple of pictures up in albums, I think it is set so all can see them.

I think the other VIN is missing one number-WDBAB33COFA247171

Not much info for WDBAB33C0FA247171:

VEHICLE TYPE: Car
MODEL NAME: 300 D TURBODIESEL USA
ENGINE: 617952 12 101357
TRANSMISSION: 722315 02 612525
BODY: 02692
ORDER NUMBER: 0470547200
LIGHTS: BOSCH
INTERIOR COLOR: 154 [sixto - java MB tex]
PAINTS: 172 [sixto - anthracite gray]

420 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION 4-GEAR
430 HEADREST IN THE REAR, LEFT AND RIGHT

A US spec 123 300D with rear headrests???

Better check the proper EPC.

My First Issue has risen... coming home the 300 D ran a little warm. just a tad above 80. the oil looks as if it needs changed, ext water reservoir looks good.

I found what appears to be "Mud Dobber" (sp?) nests between the radiator and the ac condenser, I can use a brush to get the nest, but can I try to pour a little water between the two coils to try to get the mud out of the coils?

The oil will nearly ALWAYS be black. That is normal for these so don't let that scare you. Welcome to the club.
