Anti Freeze Smell in Trunk
Hi All
Maybe someone can help me out. I've looked in the archives and have not found any mention of my problem. I smell anti freeze in the trunk of my 85 300d. Sometimes it creeps into the cab but it's source is from the trunk. The only thing I can think of is the vacuum tank could be causing this and why? I am not loosing any coolant. Thanks.

I agree, some previous owner spilt some coolant. remove the spare tire, rug and plastic liners and clean it up with some soap and water.
pop out the drain plugs in the tire well and the wells in the quarter panels. good time to check for rust in these areas. Charlie

There should be no coolant near the back of your car unless (as mentioned above)
- WVO tank using engine coolant as a heater - you or another owner stored and spilled some back there - its not really coolant but mold or something. This is a very real possibility especially if you have a leak somewhere. I'd pull the carpets and look for any moisture in there whatsoever and track it down.

I had coolant smell in my trunk before. Turns out I had put half a bottle of coolant back there and forgotten about it, and it sprang a leak.
