Functionally, yes, but there are simple modifications to consider including:

1) The small bolts at the very front of the head into the front cover are 30mm longer when using a later than original head casting.

2) Later than original castings use oblique injectors which cannot be swapped with vertical injectors. Your choices are to get the prechambers, injectors and injector lines with the later casting, or machine the vertical prechambers from the original casting to fit in the later casting so you can keep the vertical injectors and injector lines. Injector lines can be bent to fit.

3) This might be a duh but use a 3.0 head gasket.

Took the buffer to the newly acquired 300D also. Still need to repair rocker rust around jackholes, but it's a start. New motor mounts also. I also need to remove the blower motor and free it and see if I can oil it and get it going again. Just hearing the motor hum through the cowl.

Unless you enjoy getting to the blower motor, just replace it.

heads # 22

I'm doing a compression test in the am, then if need be take the #22 350SD 3.5 L head off the rebuilt 3.0 L block. Love working on these engines. Live and learn .. I have the original head, it looks similar, although the pre chamber style lock system old style, could this be a problem ? The block has been re sleeved, original pistons, new rings etc, etc. The noise is a clunking noise inside the head ?? tapping noise, metal on metal.. new tappets lifters head totally rebuilt, valve guides and the like. I checked the timing gears it all check out .. are the harmonic balance timing gear different, cam sprockets, timing chain from a 3.0 / 3.5 L something is wrong ..

There's no need to remove prechambers when swapping heads.

The innards are generally the same as is the crank damper. Some bits were redesigned such as the cam sprocket bolt and IP timer. You shouldn't have a problem as long as you keep the cam bolt and washer with their cam. I don't think you can mismatch parts anyway.

Are you sure you aren't hearing injector nailing?

I suggest starting a new thread to keep focus on your project.

heads # 22

I did a test with a extension on my ear, slight ticking (tapping) in the head. not a regular noise, defiantly not nailing. I'm going to use a dial indicator double check tdc with the cam, put it together start it them decide, noise gone = happy camper, still there backup plan. I suppose the head is interchangeable ? I will get to the bottom line soon.

Feels very good that it's now complete and parked behind it's slightly longer brethren who also had the 3.5L removed, and a 3.0 put in it's place.

Thanks for all the help and advice as always guys.
