300 TD Side Air Vent pushed in
My passenger side air vent pushed in. I have the chrome ring, the waved washer and the vent attached to the hose. How do I secure it back?
|
Check the vent housing (the "eye socket"). It should have 4 tabs 90 degrees apart. If you have a broken tab it's time for a trip to a p-n-p. When you pull the old one be sure to compress the tabs and go slow upon removal. Don't feel bad I broke my first one too, it's easy and 30 year old plastic is brittle.
Otherwise the eye socket part comes in from the back and the chrome ring from the front and they hook together with the 4 tabs. The hose is friction fit on the rear. |
You can access the vent by removing the glove box. If you find a good used one , I have found that twisting the rear part of the vent and holding the eyeball portion, will help keep the tabs from breaking. Installing it is just a matter of lining up the tabs, and compressing both parts together.

The wavy washer goes behind the dash. It keeps the trim ring from
popping out while you're pushing the eyeball back in. --frankb Quote:
