Accelerator unresponsive

My accelerator broke as I pulled into my parking lot (good luck) and became unresponsive. The pedal still move fully but the linkage under the hood no longer moves. I can pull on the linkage with my hand and rev the engine though. So it's gotta be something between those two pieces in the firewall right? From what I've searched and read it sounds like it's that throttle bushing pivot mount, but how do I check?

You can observe a lot just by watching. Failing that, remove the pivot and you will probably find that the "ball" on the back side has disintegrated.

I agree with qwerty, have a helper push the petal down several times and look for where you are loosing all your movement. It's mostlikely the throttle bushing as you mention, but it could also be linkages in other places. You can temporarily fix the throttle bushing with wire if it is broken and you need to drive the car.

Yep, have that assistant push the throttle and observe.

I'll bet the firewall mounted throttle bushing has broken. It bolts to the firewall and has hard black rubber that will get bad with age and tear. Also, inside the bolted on firewall part, you may see that the ball is disintegrated.

Last time this happened to me, I'd made the mistake of having a Lube shop change my oil. They broke my bushing trying to get to the oil filter housing.

As said there is no replacement for observing and finding what is wrong.

However, below is a picture of one type of Throttle Bushing/Bell Crank that bolts up to the Fire Wall. (Not all 123s have the same Type of Bushing)

The Plastic Balls fall apart as does the Rubber part on the Front.
There is also a retaining Clip that holds the one of the Linkage Rods to the Bushing (not shown).

Found the problem

So I found the problem. It keeps slipping out of that slot it's supposed to be in. Looks like there should be something in this hole to keep it from slipping out. Is it just a small bolt with a nut on it or is it something special/different that goes there?

Also I think the other part of the problem is that the rubber is cracked and stretching too much so I'll need to replace it soon anyways.

The retainer on mine is a Cotter pin. Aren't you glad for such an easy fix!

You will find the real problem when you remove the pivot. And it won't be cracked rubber.
