odd thumping noise after new tires
Just had two new tires put on my car and 2 almost brand new put up front. While driving I can feel a thumping from the left front. It's not major, just kind of an annoying kind of rhythmic thumping.
Car - 87 300D I jacked that side up and checked the bearing for play by trying to rock the tire front to back and its solid. When spinning the tire the brake pads grab slightly as the tire rotates. Plus while spinning the tire it doesn't spin silently, I'm not sure if I am hearing things or if the bearing is going. any ideas? |

maybe they didn't balance the tires properly?

Swap the tires from left to right. If the thumping noise transfers to the other side, it's the tires. If not, it's that part of the car.
If the tires are directional, swap the tires front to back and vice versa. |

Sound moved from the left side to the right side. I'll be calling the tire place and have them check the balance on the tire for me.

Even tire out of round is a possibility. Broken belt is the most common though I would suspect.

As MBeige said, swap sides. If the thump as you describe goes to the right side, google gsp9700.com and go to their site. They will show you where the nearest machine of this type is to you. It is the only way to really analyze such a tire without a bunch of messing around. It has a pressure roller that can analyze RFV which is a fancy term for stiff spots in the tire. It would be worth the money, to get right down to the core of the problem.
Hope this helps.

Whats weird is that it didn't make any sounds or vibrations until a few days after I had the tire put on. The website for the hunter tire thing shows the Discount Tire I went to. I'll call them tomorrow
