116 axle help

A friend with a nice 116 has a problem getting to the 4 differential mount bolts, says hes going to need to drop the sub-frame to get to them so he can get to the C clip. I've never done anything on a 116, anyone know, that sounds like a daunting job.

I haven't had to get at the c-clips on my W116, but I don't think there's anything different there than on a W123

With the car supported on stands (or on a lift), a jack may be placed under the diff center section to provide just a slight upward pressure. Then unbolt the rubber mount from the diff rear cover (two bolts) and from the crossmember above it (four bolts). The diff rear cover may now be unbolted, and the c-clips accessed. No need to remove the bolts securing the diff to the subframe, unless you are intent on removing the entire diff from the car, and that involves a different proceedure.

Thanks for the feed back. I'll pass it along. I figured there had to be an easier way than dropping the sub frame.
