W115 Cluster

Hey all,

I've been a lurker quite some time since buying my 240D and since have decided to register.

My cluster lights haven't been working even since I've purchased that car and finally decided to try and figure out why. Of course it was the rheostat switch. The spring in it was pretty much destroy and everything was corroded bad. I decided to bypass the switch and just link the two connectors.

My lights work now, however, I've lost the ground to the fiber optic light. Can't find it anywhere and I'm almost 100 percent certain that I pulled it off while I was pulling out the fiber connectors.

Can anybody help me locate this dang ground?! One of my fiber optics is pretty destroyed but I'd like to have the other side of my speedo light up as well as the other fiber optic connector and have the piece of mind that my cluster is grounded properly.

Thanks!

BTW, that speedo cable is a major PIA to reconnect.

I'm guessing you are short of slack on the speedo cable. Pull it up to get some extra to work with and you may find it a lot better.

This isn't my cluster, although it is very similar (this one is from a 300d, same year) but what I need to know is what connects to that light bulb directly above his thumb, well more towards the 2 o'clock mark. I feel as if I disconnected something from there?

Thanks for the help!

You're correct. I figured it out, the bulb socket itself grounds to the cluster where it plugs in. Everything is tip top now other than my gas gauge is a little off I believe.
