teal 300D

http://www.silverstarinc.com/silverstarshowroom.htm

hey ck, i looked at this teal 300 a few weeks ago. it wasn't the one for me. it has been hit also, if this is the same car you went to look at, just be aware. if it isn't then good luck. the white 85 is from ny. and has considerable rust. the others weren't there when i went to look. keep us posted. as you know i'm looking for the same car that you are, but please know that i'm not looking to steal a lead from you, nor am i interested in a bidding war for "the car." i think we can both find what we're looking for. e-mail me anytime, and if you want my phone # just let me know.

Looked at the teal '84 300D last night.

Has records going waaay back. Mississippi car.

The palamino interior is so nice looking it's scary...If I didn't know any better, I'd say the seats (front and back) had never even been sat in! The interior surfaces look THAT good!
ZERO dash cracks....looks mint.

Doesn't have a radio...well, actually, I saw it sitting behind the passager seat. Two wood pieces below the center vents are missing...otherwise, the other wood trim pieces are nearly perfect looking! No cracking, checking, or delamination.

Windshield has been replaced. Non MB OEM glass

Right front fender needs repainting due to acid spill about 1.5" in diameter in couple places. Edge around the gas fill door looks like someone got carried away with a buffer. Dried concrete on front and rear fenderwells on the passenger side of car (front fender would need repainting anyway so no biggy there). Looks like the two right tires drove thru wet concrete!!!

Driver's door has a 3" long gash in the paint (dark blue primer showing underneath). So THAT door prolly needs a repaint too.

Otherwise, the paint looks like it's been sitting in a garage all it's life...still looks great and shiny. Looked REAL close...car has NOT been repainted.

One of the yellow fog lights in front is cracked (moisture inside).

Wheels could use repainting. Some offbrand tires on it.

Don't know price yet, but this car looks very good overall....
Still waiting on more info from the tech regarding his findings.

Ducati:

Maybe not....the owner is REAL proud of this car and I just found out that he's wanting $8K w/OUT even fixing the A/C.....

I'm really starting to get bummed out here...
I'm, once again, looking at non-deisel mbz models...it seems like everytime I find one, it's either screwed up or they want WAY too much for it.

Alan,

That 300D and 300SD sound interesting.

...I would hate to impose on you, BUT if you find yourself in the vicinity of either of those two cars, I'd love to know what you think of them after a quick look.

In the meantime, my search continues...

I just called about the 300SD. The guy sounded kinda fishy. He's had the car for 4 years and has fixed stuff as they break. The A/C is "iffy" but he's willing to fix it for half price. His wife is driving it currently so I'd have to say when I could look at it.

I didn't get a good feeling about it since he wasn't very receptive to the fact I'm looking at it for you.

Alan,

ok...I'd say trust your instincts on this one. I'm in NO mood to deal with anymore flakiness. Thanks for calling.

Do NOT get the non diesel Benz. I have had a gasser and now a 300D. The diesel is much less money to maintain.

Ok....update here.

I'm about to fly up to Cinn. in a couple minutes to pick-up my HOPEFULLY new/used car.

I say hopefully because I've never seen it in person and I'm sweating bullets that I'm going to find something REALLY wrong that breaks the sale...I've covered as much as possible via telephone and pictures but this can only get me so far.

This is only the second time I've even ever bought a used car and DEFINATELY the first time I've bought one w/o being able to see it first in person. I'm just REALLY nervous about it

But, if everything goes well, I'll be back home in Atl. Sat. night and will get pictures (if there's enuf daylight left) to post here.

oh....what model is it? '85 300SD

Too bad. It was such a good-looking car. I guess the PPI paid off.

(Don't be too quick to jump on another car in the dealer's lot. There ARE great cars out there!)

hey ck,
i hope this is the one. i'm eager to know how it turns out. let us all know. i haven't looked at any that far away, but then i still don't have one either. maybe i need to increase my range also. i'm with you on the theory that they're either junk or way to much. they seem to run 3k or 8k. i can't go for the latter, but i haven't seen one that the a/c actually works! good luck,
tripacer
