The TD is more dependent on a healthy lift pump than the sedan since the fuel tank is mounted so low in the TD. So, it could be a weak lift pump.

going to check in the morning. I looked around for it tonight but didn't see it, but just found a diagram that shows it location so will try again.

Fixed half dozen or so other vacuum lines., replaced a headlight, replaced all the rear lights as only one was working. refitted the 85 air cleaner housing and vent tube as I believe it should be. looks better.

replaced all the plastic thumb screws that hold the bezels for the headlights. PO had bolts there, which make it a real pita to change a headlight if you where to be on the road...

WIll just keep checking stuff off the list. This car actually needs a LOT less attention than the 82 did.

I'm jealous. I called to look at that car, but it was gone before I could get down there. Oh well, I need another project like I need another hole in my head.

x2. I don't think the turbo was offered in europe. also all turbos i have seen have a tach.

that said it is no negative to have the turbo in my mind.

When I was up parting out Vstechs 85 Euro I remember it had a Turbo also. In fact I brought the turbo home with me. It was the KKK version.

I don't remember there being a Tach. But It's been awhile.

Did a little more looking around and found another with turbo, and the same clock here...

I GOT MY MENTORS CAR!!! 1985 euro 300TD pix!! - Benzworld.org - Mercedes-Benz Discussion Forum

Edit on reading he does not actually say anything about turbo...

My original owners manual has reference to it on the cover Listing a 300TD and a 300TD-Turbo Diesel (A 300TDTD ?)

So, did the 85 Euro have a turbo option of not? OR have all these been swapped later?

Ya, it was one of those timing things. I sold mine on Saturday and was sitting here later that night wondering if I had made a mistake by letting her go, and ran across this one. Called the guy and worked out a deal with him so we all jumped into the car and made a little road trip. Nice guy. There are obvious issues it had light almost all the lights being out. and of course this fueling issue. In his defense, he never took it on interstate, and was only using it to drive short distances around town, so he might not have even known. It drove fine (a little underpowered) during the test drive but I was chalking that up to a badly needed tune up and maybe a plugged bango bolt etc. My main concern was rust, blow by and a good shifting trans. The engine itself purrs at idle.

It has a bad mount on the pass side, so I'll replace that today after I play detective and try to track down this vent for the tank. Then I'll do a valve adjustment just to know it's been done. Check the timing stretch ect...
