om606 injection pump "update", huh?

Quote:
The injection pump has been updated on this (which is a $4000 job - It has to be done on all these models (even if it only has 50k miles) so BEWARE if your looking at 1 & it hasn't been done, IT WILL or your car BLOWS UP)

i was browsing cars for sale, and found this in the description of a 1999 e300. i've never heard of any required update to the 606 injection pump. is this guy smoking something? or am i the one who's misinformed?

thanks

The only things that can be replaced in the injection pump are the pump elements, the delivery valves and the o-rings.

It's highly unlikely that the elements or the DV's have been touched but the o-rings may have been swapped for Viton which could be considered an upgrade to make the fuel system resistant to biodiesel.

You would have to ask to be sure. Some might say that replacing the Delivery Valve Holder O-rings with Viton ones an up-date.

He probably ran some funky fuel he ought not to have run and repairs and upgraded seals and hoses cost him that much. TMAllison got to 310K miles on his '99 E300 without the $4000 IP upgrade.

$4000 will buy you a Myna or Dieselmeken pump including shipping from Finland.

He's probably hoping you will take his over the one(s) either side of his because of the $4,000 upgrade - whatever that means.

My '96 E300 is at 286,000 miles and AFAIK the IP has never been touched. X3 on the vacuum pump -- an IP problem wouldn't make the engine "blow up" but a vacuum pump failure could. The $4000 is bogus, unless he means the cost to rebuild an engine after a vacuum pump failure.
