Radiator question. 1984 300TD

This is the radiator that is in my car, 84 300TD. It doesn't state that it is a BEHR on the top anywhere, though it looks like one.

I need a new drain plug for it since this one started leaking. It leaks very little but I need to take it on a road trip next week and I want it fixed. Any ideas?

Thanks

Are you positive the leak is coming from the drain plug?

From what I can tell it is. I crawled under the car when I noticed the leak and the drain plug was wet and it didn't appear to be leaking anywhere else. Is this common?

Is the lower hose fitting near the drain plug?

x3 the drain seems an unlikely source so I would suggest double checking the source of the h2O.

Okay, now you have me second guessing! I'll have to climb back under and take a look, maybe a pic or two.

It could be just wishful thinking that it is the drain plug so I won't have to face a bad radiator directly after an AC compressor/dryer replacement!

Here's what I've got. The drain plug is obvious and the rubber grommet with the coolant leak is directly above the drain plug on the other side of the sheet metal. Oil cooler on the left.

When I originally discovered the leak the plug itself had coolant on it as well. The lower hose is located on the other side and the other plug like fitting on the bottom (vent?) is dry as a bone.

Can you see the corresponding front corner of the bottom tank?

The chances of a nondisturbed drain plug randomly starting to leak are pretty slim. I think I would lift the radiator out of the support and inspect the drain plug nipple for cracks.

sixto, the front is not showing any coolant at all.

qwerty, probably a good suggestion. I just don't have the cash with the layout for the AC. Course sticking my head in the sand won't make it stop leaking!

Just like the plastic radiator tanks, I have seen the plastic drain-plugs get brittle with age and crack. I had one crack on one of my W123s. In case you don't have alternate transport, I'd suggest you go pick up a new plug for a Behr radiator first, then when you get home pull yours to see if they match. As I recall, when mine cracked, I couldn't get an exact replacemnt right away, so I improvised a temporary one with a metric bolt and an 'O' ring.
But I had another vehicle so I was able to go drain-plug shopping.

Happy Motoring, Mark

Thanks Mark, Sounds like a good idea. I think I'll end up going down that road.
