606 Oil filter rod - little o-rings?
I have a feeling this is a stupid question, but here goes:
I recently changed the oil on my '97 for the first time - the rod on the oil filter top had two indentations for O-rings, but there were no O-rings there. I didn't see any in the bottom of the canister either. I put it all back together but didn't put the O-rings on. Here's the stupid question - are there really supposed to be O-rings there, or are the indentations for some kind of little seals in the filter shaft? I don't recall if the filter kit came with little O-rings. On a side note - the 606 really seems to drain out more oil than my 617 did. Thanks,

There should be o-rings. Call Phil for the exact parts or slip on whatever fits from a parts store variety pack.

Those two o-rings and the large o-ring for the filter cap seal should have come with the filter. You can remove the filter and install the o-rings when you get them, and just reinstall the filter. The larger of the two o-rings on the filter stem will also fit the dip stick, so you might want to buy two. When you change oil, loosen the cap on the filter enough to let air in so the oil will drop into the pan and can be drained off. I love this oil filter arrangement. No more laying under the car with oil running down your arm trying to remove a hot filter screwed sideways into the block.

OK, thanks. I suspected there's supposed to be actual O-rings there but wanted to be sure. I agree the oil filter arrangement makes for easy service. I can't even see the oil filter in our '07 Toyota.
