I'm losing my ****ing mind here:

Someone tell me what I'm doing wrong. I've always had problems with the search function on internet BBSs, at the moment I am searching this site for the correct diesel injection pump timing on a 1980 300TD, which has a 617.912 5-cylinder non-turbo engine.

I'm pretty sure that the spec is 24 deg. or very close, (same as turbo 617 engines), but I do not want to waste my time w/o the PRECISE factory spec.

No matter what words or terms I put into the "search this forum" tab, i.e. "injection pump timing 5-cylinder non-turbo", or "IPT 617.912", or whatever else, I get threads where someone is asking how to check timing on his 1984 300D turbo or similar car. I know how to check and adjust IP timing. I own several 617 turbo cars. I need the spec for a 617.912.

I've found some very informative threads and learned a lot of random info that I was not searching for, but no IP timing spec for non-turbo 617.

What am I doing wrong with my search??? TIA.

Go to http://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/doclist.jsp, select the Model 123 service library, select 123 Disc 2, select your model and year, select engine manual, select Diesel injection system then find the appropriate IP timing spec.

Or go straight to - http://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/outside/12265/disc_2/program/Engine/615/07-109.pdf - high pressure method

or - http://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/outside/12265/disc_2/program/Engine/615/07-110.pdf - low pressure method

Or just believe it's 24* BTDC

I Googled "617.952 injection timing" and this came up at the top of the list:

On the W123s there is an Emission Sticker (yep just like on Gassers Cars) stuck on top of the crossmember that is in front of the Radiator on the Drivers Side. It has the timing specs and the Valve adustment spec on it.
I am guessing that your Car also has one on it.
The Drip Method is underlined in red.

I'll be darned, I never knew it was on the sticker under the hood. I knew that the valve clearances and a few other things were there. Thanks to all of you.

Thanks, I found that on my google attempt as well but it doesn't break the spec down for different motors in the text. Maybe they're all the same in that grouping? My Haynes manual has slightly different specs for 617 turbo vs. 616 but somehow omits the 617 non-turbo. Good old Haynes.
