ring and pinion options?

Where can different ring and pinions be purchased? Are they difficult to set up if I want to change my ratio?

Are you talking rack and pinion steering or differential parts?

My guess is differential parts => in which case dealer would be my first stop - then I'd get my heart re-started and I'd be looking for secondhand...

Salvage yards once you find the ins and outs of the various ratios available to you. Get the complete differential and speedometer head. Much has already been discussed in the archives in relation to this.

What ratio do you have ? and what ratio were you looking to go to?

Your best option is start hitting the PNP yards.

R and P swaps require special measuring tools to get it right. On older mostly worn out stuff I've used the pinion shim original to the target housing. ( remove old gears , save shim , install new gears with this shim. ) Use a new crush collar to assure the bearing preload is correct, also be aware new bearings get more preload than used ones.

Setting backlash is done with side shims / adjuster screws. The ones from the target housing are usually pretty close.

You are much better off getting a complete diff and making the swap that way.
