w126 handling
To what extent would replacing the original shocks on the 126 with Bilstein Heavy Duty's improve handling? I'm looking for improved cornering in general, but do not want to sacrifice a great deal of comfort.
TIA! |
first modification for your expressed outcome would be a set of performance tires.

Everything else being equal
I found that new Bilstein HD's on my 1977 300D, improved handling a great deal. It was like a new car. I chose HD's because of the generally poor condition of NJ roads and the fact that I like a tight feel. They started out stiff as a board and softened up a little after 300-500 miles.
"Comfort" is in the eye of the beholder, and having no experience with Bilstein comforts, I can't comment. At the end of the day, you will have to make an educated guess. JCD PS, do a search as this has been an extensively discussed topic. |
Goldenbear,
On the W126, I would put on H&R or Eibach Pro springs before changing to HDs. I know a few owners that regret changing from comforts. Cheers, Andrew Seidel. |
