1984 300SD
Just a quick question.
I am getting ready to replace the brake pads on my 300SD. After researching the pads I see some have mechanical wear indicators, and some do not. The same with anti-squeal shims. I belive my car has electrical wear sensors so does it matter which type of pads I buy and do I need anti-squeal shims if the brakes don't squeal now? Thanks for any help!

Use anti-squeal shims if the new pads come with them. You can get anti-squeal paste if the new pads squeal.

Usually shims are extra.
As mentioned, use paste, always. Then if the squealing continues, purchase shims. The front pads have a hole in the top for the wear sensor, the rears do not.

Be careful removing the old sensors and you can use them again. I have done this many times on my 81 300SD.

I replace sensors with every pad change, cheap insurance.
