It's a GOOD thing that I'm not in a position to buy another vehicle. I could have LOTS of fun with that!

You wouldn't need to drag a trailer behind you either when you left to pick up the car. Of course, you'll need to fashion some kind of ramps to load it up though. :p

MyGhod, Man; the thing is a Beast. Where would you find parts?
What could you use it for? What would upkeep costs be?
Then again...Hmmm...yeah, I could have some fun with that thing, too. I would park it in front of my ex wife's house for a week...

Parts would be easy,, you just go to the nearest National Guard Armory and drive off one of their spares... they don't even have keys.... you would not want to lose a war... because you could not find who had the keys to the vehicles... or that sappers sneaked in and stole the keys from your vehicles....I have actually ridden in one of these ... from DaNang to Camp Evans.... we transported all the company equipment through the HyVan Pass in these workhorses....They are real sportvehicles... they do not lean in corners at all.... OK,,, just in case someone jumps on the idea of driving one off from an Armory... I thought I should mention that you will need to use reverse psychology when hiding it..... since it already has camo paint... you will need to paint it RED.. like Inca Red.... with a clear coat ....and white pin striping will do the trick.... you will need at least 5 gallons of paint to cover it... this is a lot of surface area....They will never recognize it if you follow this paint scheme...and the crowning touch would be to slap a Mercedes star on the hood....

A buddy of mine bought one from this guy about two or three months ago. Drove it from Oshkosh back here toThe People's Rebublic. Top speed is about 65, but he got 12mpg doing it. Crazy enough he drives it to work two or three times a week. When he called the State Police to find out if there would be any issues driving this thing he was told know. The cop off the record also said that you could almost get away without a plate since everyone would assume that it was still an Army truck.

Only downside to this rig is that it;s about as quick off the line as any semi. But, it's got an air horn so loud that we believe it's raised the dead on more than one occation.

He plans to use it this summer at the Woodward Dream Cruize. Put a big stereo in the back, along with a couple of coolers and 8-12 people in the back, should be a good time.

TheDuke, why don't you borrow it and bring it to the Texas ShinDig on the 17th ? Barbeque and drinks will be free for you if you do.... we can all pile in and tour Austin for seeing the sights... 12mpg is NOT bad compared to what I thought it would get.... Greg

I thought all those US Military trucks were Dodges and GM's. The technical info did not appear to describe the manufacturer.
Besides, I have seen some pretty weird stuff posted in this forum (which is OK...Weird is Good) so...I ask dumb questions now & then.

Okay, the truck IS a diesel...
And it gets 12 mpg, which is better mileage than my Plymouth gets. And it would be entertaining to park it in front of the ex's place for a few weeks...
Here in the mountains there are all sorts of weird contraptions that people use to get up into remote fishing holes, etc. I see lots of UniMogs, strange Volvo 4WD trucks, and home-made contraptions that some deranged mechanics build. An image of the vehicle that Ted Koscinski would drive pops into my mind.

A UniBomberMobile...now That would be fun.

" Good Old Deuce and a Halves"

Gregg,

Since we're straying on the topic, I couldn't resist to tell you I was stationed in Camp Evans for a year. Surprised to note anyone else was. Anyway, good old diesel exhaust covered a lot of stench back then.
Tony

Tony ,Actually , since I declared this OT(off topic)at the first of the subject line nothing is off topic...LOL....I know what you are talking about the diesel fuel smell... if only it had covered all the smell of those 55 gallon fires... LOL...that is a hard smell to forget... I remember coming back from Taiwan and that being the first thing that welcomed one back.. that smell hit you as soon as they opened the door.
