Mobil 1 $5.89 per
I posted this within another thread - thought it might be helpful to be out there for all to see in its own thread.
BTW, speaking of oil, NAPA has Mobil 1 on sale for $5.89 per quart through the end of this month. This sale is only in the NAPA company stores, not the privately owned ones as I found out yesterday. My local privately owned store are good folks and gave me the sale price anyway - they regularly sell it for $9.15. Oh, and another thing, if you join Mobil 1 Rewards, you get $5 gift cards for each block of six quarts/liters you buy. See http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Rewards/Mobil_1_Rewards.aspx

I agree that's a decent price for individual quarts, for sure.
NONE of the NAPAs around here carry the Turbo Diesel rated Mobil1. Also (and I hope I'm not opening a can of worms here), I understand that Mobil has moved AWAY from being a "True" synthetic, and it is now a Group 3 (i.e. conventional base oil) refined product. That implies that the absolute performance of the oil has been compromised (wear, shear, etc. capabilities), even though the law allows Mobil to continue to call it "synthetic", as it is refined to an extent that allows it to surpass the performance of "regular" refined oil. I'm still using it, but if that is true, I am very disappointed. I think it was Mobil that actually took Castrol to court for using the "Synthetic" oil label back when, and the courts decided that it was the performance of the oil, not the actual chemical makeup, that determined the label. I'd rather they just say what's in the bottle when we buy it so that we can all draw our own conclusions, just like the ingredients labels on our food. Sincerely, Packman

I must be getting old, but over $5 a quart for ANYTHING seems high to me. I guess I must be living in the "gone forever" old days.....*sigh*

Well, when your oil change interval is in the neighborhood of 13,000 miles (FSS), it doesn't seem so bad.
