Has anyone used the W123 "Extra Headlight Switch" position for anything fun?

Hi guys, I was just reading my 240D owners manual (again) and I noticed that the headlight switch has TWO pull-out positions. One for factory fog lamps, and one for "additional accessories".

Have you guys wired into that at all, and if you did, what did you do with the switch? :)

Sincerely,

Packman

Europeans (and perhaps others) have used that switch position for a rear fog lamp, a single bright lamp on the left side (right side in the UK?) using an extra set of contacts in the tail lamp housing. It might be able to use the switch contacts to energize a relay and turn on some driving lights, for example.

In fact my 91 300D came with the rear fog installed. This past weekend I discovered that if you put a bulb in the center of the headlight switch it will illuminate when the rear fog is on. Very cool

My '93 190D has the rear fog also, it works and there is already an indicator in the switch in the center. Pretty neat. :D

You can use it to display a different license plate :)
